Going Into College Blind

Updated: Aug 24, 2024

Alright we've all been there, the college tours, career guidance council meetings, and the question. "What is your major?" I've been there, and we may have had the same response to all of these, feeling motivated but terrified. At this point I don't even know who I want to be let alone 'do for the rest of my life' and I am telling you this now. You can have a career and still do the 50 things you are interested in and want to accomplish.

If you feel like you are in a position where you have to ump straight into college from high school, it can be stressful. Personally, I do feel like taking time and just working would be beneficial this is what I did, and it worked for me. I learned what skills I have and grew new ones as well. I learned what I enjoy and what I don't, it helped later choose the major I am in today.

Make sure you create an appointment with your pathway instructor for a SEP plan. This will format the foundation of your academic plan and end goal.

I have had a lot of students straight out of high school or still in high school tell me they don't know why they are signing up for college. My advice is it is okay to not know. Many of us love doing more than one thing, ask yourself what major category for all the minor things is you enjoy. Go from there!
